How much has happened in just over a year of marriage! So far, we have only seen a glimpse of the possibilities of serving God together with our skills, passions, and lives. In June, Crystal graduated with a master’s degree in social work and began working with Recovery Innovations as a mental health professional. She serves individuals seeking to transition from residential mental health treatment facilities to live self-sufficiently in the community. Michael is finishing his medical school training, doing rotations all over the country—and soon the world! After passing his second round of board exams, we are waiting for God to open the door for residency in either pediatrics or family medicine.
As God continues to satisfy the desires of our hearts, we posture our hearts with gratitude, humility, and an increased yearning to give back to the Lord with the gifts he has given us. Here we are, Lord! Send us! We want God to use us in a powerful way to bring light and love to underserved areas.
The Bible says in Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you” (MSG). We praise the Lord for his goodness, provision, and favor in our lives, and for bringing two hearts, minds, and bodies together to become one as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Over 25 years ago, a small baby was seen on the first ultrasound machine at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya. At that time, only God knew that baby Michael would grow up and return to the hospital as a medical student. We have been blessed with an amazing opportunity as part of Michael’s medical school training to do a medical mission at Tenwek Hospital. From mid-March to early-May, the Rommens will be serving in medical and community outreach capacities. We cannot wait to learn and work alongside missionaries and local people, while seeking and walking in God’s will for our lives.
Just like the parable of the talents, we are praying that God will help us be good stewards and multiply our talents for His glory. In the same way, we have faith that God can provide monetarily, as we must raise our own funds. We also understand that prayer is a powerful tool that effects change in a tangible way for His Kingdom. We graciously thank you for supporting us in one or both of these ways. If you would like to give monetarily, you can write a check to Grace Church Federal Way, and they would be happy to send you a tax receipt. Please do not include our name on the check, but rather specify “donation” or “gift” on the memo line. We are overjoyed at what the Lord is doing in our lives and would love for you to be a part of it!
